I have enjoyed experiencing the content of this course. It has helped me to improve my wellbeing a great deal. I look forward to maintaining these practices and seeing the increased improvements that will result throughout my journey. The wealth of information that I am taking away from this class will greatly improve the overall experience of those that I will be assisting. As a practitioner, attempting to assist those with their mental and physical health, I will be responsible for offering my patients a beneficial experience. By continuing on with the practices I have learned over the last 10 weeks, as well as increasing my knowledge to implement new ones, I will be able to offer my patients greater guidance in reaching their goals.

Unit 5 blog post
I have enjoyed implementing both the loving kindness & the subtle mind exercises into my daily routine over the last couple of weeks. The loving kindness practice allows you to open your mind to promote positive energy from ourselves to those that we share our lives with. By taking control of our energy flow, we allow ourselves the benefit of controlling how we react to positive and negative situations, thus maintaining our internal energy. This way we are able to distribute it as we see fit, instead of emotions taking over and depleting energy.
The subtle mind exercise was a bit more difficult. It took a few days of practice. Maintaining focus and not allowing myself to be “absorbed” into my thoughts has become a much easier task. I am able to keep my focus on the present moment, instead of “wandering” with my thoughts.
Spiritual, mental and physical wellness, all go hand in hand. To maintain overall health, the focus should be placed on all of them, and the role they play improving health and wellness. Working in mainstream medicine for so many years has caused me to lose sight of the big picture. In an environment where pinpointing malfunctions in specific body systems and applying the fastest, easiest treatment, is the norm, it is hard to encourage a thought process that includes, a connection between mind, body and spirituality.

Relaxation Exercise
I was a bit frustrated while attempting to complete the exercise “The Crime of the Century”. First off, there was just too much instruction to relax. I was unable to just sit back and clear my mind without stopping and thinking “wait, did I miss something he said?” After I got into the exercise approximately 4 minutes and 22 seconds, it just stopped working. After several attempts, I was unable to get it to go past this point of the exercise. Instead, I decided to have my husband join me for a repeat of the unit 2 exercise, “The Journey”. It was a very relaxing experience to be together in a state of deep relaxation, without the hustle and bustle of daily life that is normally occurring around us when we are together.
Optimal Wellbeing Ratings
Spiritual wellbeing- I rate myself a 4 when it comes to spirituality. Sadly, this has become an aspect of my life that has gotten away from me over the last 6 years. Working on careers, and family planning has caused me to become “spiritually sidetracked.” A goal that I will implement into my life is to take more time for myself, for soul-searching. I am in the process of getting set up to start Reiki classes through master level.
Psychological wellbeing- I rate myself an 8 for psychological wellness. Properly processing emotions is important for psychological health, so I will continue my goal of journaling nightly to reduce “storing” any negative thoughts or feelings. Processing my thoughts and feelings will help maintain a balance between my mental and emotional health and allow me to utilize energy more productively.

Reflective statement
I found "The Journey" to be, for the most part a very relaxing experience. Guided Imagery is an excellent way for me to clear my mind after a busy day. I often find myself listing in my head for the following day at bed time, and it makes falling asleep difficult. Practices, such as guided imagery, have helped me to reduce my thoughts and prepare for rest. I was able to relax and experience the sensations that the narrator described during the exercise.
